Nutmeg is the oval mottled brown nut of the Myristica fragrans Houtt tree. Nutmeg is used in many sweet and savoury dishes, to impart a slightly sweet zesty flavour. Nutmeg is traded both with and without the shell, and is also available in a BWP grade for extraction purposes. The essential oil and oleoresin (nutmeg butter) are valued in the perfumery, pharmaceutical and as a natural food flavouring for baked goods, syrups, beverages and sweets.
